1st Battalion, 24th Marines

 Unit Reunion

Attention Alpha Company: 1st Battalion, 24th Marines

1/24 Alpha Company's Unit Reunion in Rothburg, Michigan was one for the books. The Semper Fi Fund hosted an event for the Marines to come together, after 10 years, to catch up and reminisce. It was a weekend of excitement, reconnection, and brotherhood.

In 2006 1/24 deployed to OIF, and a significant number of members of the Johnson City Reserve Unit (Lima Company) were augmented and many of those reserve members were able to carpool up from Tennessee to the event to join in the festivities.

Service members, along with a Gold Star father, also spent time honoring the memory of five Marines who were killed during the deployment. It was a powerful and healing time for all in attendance.

Golfing and horseback riding were only a few of the activities that were planned for this tight-knit group. Their significant history together was portrayed in the photos of Fallujah that their CO, Colonel Whisnant, was able to share during the weekend. He remarked how their deployment is still having an impact on that area.
