Recently, Semper Fi Fund traveled to Germany to visit the Landstuhl hospital, Ramstein flight line, Helicopter unit, and the Landstuhl Fisher House to wrap our arms around our liaisons, injured service members, and hospital staff. As always, it was one of our most touching annual trips.
The case directors, as well as Wounded Warrior Regiment’s Commanding Officer and Sergeant Major – Colonel Buhl and Sergeant Major Mack, joined Semper Fi Fund’s founder, CEO, and President, Karen Guenther. This year the service member group included three Marines, one Navy Corpsman, one Soldier, one Airman, and three spouses. The Semper Fi Fund’s dear friends at Fisher House – the Fisher House Ambassadors – traveled with the group, and also donated miles to cover the flights of our service members and their spouses.
The purpose of these trips is twofold: facilitating closure and healing for our service members, and thanking the hospital staff and all active duty service members who have supported our injured heroes from the helicopter squadron. It is so awesome to see the impact of the Semper Fi Fund around the world, and it is an incredible honor to have the chance to thank these men and women in person for their dedication to our nation’s heroes.
Please find several pictures below of the visit with the medics and pilots of Dustoff Squadron. This Blackhawk Squadron’s sole mission is rescuing our wounded service members from Iraq and Afghanistan. There were touching conversations with this special squadron, and many new friends were made throughout the experience!
This trip is priceless because it allows for invaluable exchanges between our injured service members and everyone they meet who made a difference in their lives from day one. It is hard to say if this trip is more important for our service members or those we visit. Truly powerful!
