Tulsa, OK — “A special Mother’s Day for one Green Country mother as her son, a U.S. Marine, visits Tulsa. It has been about a year and a half since Major Bill Conner has seen his mom. He returned home from Afghanistan in March, one of his six deployments overseas. Within a month of getting back, Conner set on a 6-week cross country bicycle ride to raise money for the Semper Fi fund, an organization that helps injured Marines and those injured while supporting Marines.
On Sunday, Conner showed up and Mary Ann Conner ran to meet him, “You just get that surge when you see your son and off you go.”

He gave her flowers and she was certainly happy to see him. Mary Ann says, “When you kind of add up the miles, I am thinking would’t that be the most awesome Mother’s Day gift just so I could just hug him because I haven’t hugged him since Christmas 2009.”

“America is really a beautiful country,” says Major Bill Conner who has seen the world with six overseas deployments but is now seeing the U.S. on his bicycle. He will end the ride on May 30th, Memorial Day in Delaware. “I don’t think there is anything more beautiful than the American flag flying in the wind and it has helped keep me safe along the way,”
