September 11th – Always Remember

One of the most remarkable paradoxes of life is that a year can be both a very long time and something that seems to pass by in an instant.

It’s an even more remarkable paradox that 16 years ago can seem like only yesterday.

Our nation suffered deep and horrible wounds on September 11, 2001. Events in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania shook our nation to its core and commanded the attention of the entire world.

They also commanded the attention – and action – of some of the very best that America has to offer. Here at the Semper Fi Fund, we know many of them personally, and have heard so many of their stories about how the events of 9/11 compelled them to enlist.

These are the very bravest among us, the men and women who have made the decision to give of themselves and serve us all. They’ve deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and dozens of locations around the globe as active participants in the country’s ongoing effort to preserve our freedom.

Some of them made the ultimate sacrifice. Many of them will bear the scars of their service for the rest of their lives – and thousands of those (more than 19,000 to date) have been assisted in dealing with those scars by the Semper Fi Fund.

We have pledged to stand by these service members and their families because they made the pledge to stand by us. They’ve given us all their very best – how can we do anything other than give our very best to them in return?

On this day of remembrance, all of us at the Semper Fi Fund will be thinking about where we were on that terrible morning. We will share our stories with friends and family, and we will listen to theirs.

Above all, though, we will be renewing our pledge to stand by our service members’ sides – not just at their time of injury, but for a lifetime if necessary.

How can any of us possibly do any less?
