San Diego, CA – What started four years ago as a way for a father and son to make Veterans Day more than just a day off, has turned into a chance for many to honor veterans this Friday.
For the fourth year, a very dedicated group of Navy Chaplains and religious program assistants will cycle to honor veterans and support the Semper Fi Fund on Veterans Day.
“My son and I decided to do something special four years ago,” said event organizer Chaplain Irving Elson. “We were going to ride from Pendleton to Balboa the first year and as we told people we were going to do it, more and more people said they wanted to ride with us.”
What started with about 10 people, has grown into a 35-person ride. This year’s ride will start at One MEF Headquarters on Camp Pendleton and end at the Marine Recruit Depot, in San Diego.
“We’re lucky that we’re able to get out there and ride and we hope that by raising money for the Semper Fi Fund, others (who have been injured) will be able to ride again someday,” Elson said.
Media can meet the cyclists at the One MEF building on Camp Pendleton prior to their launch.
