Injured Service Members Overcome Physical Limitations With Help from Seasoned Pros and Experts

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (September 8, 2015) More than two dozen members of Team Semper Fi and Team America’s Fund are heading to Colorado Springs Sep. 10-12 for the first-ever Semper Fi Fund United States Olympic Committee Military Program (USOC) Multi-Sport Endurance Camp.

Top-tier instructors will hone the athletic skills of 25 service members in challenging events including biathlon, triathlon, strength & conditioning and track & field. The Endurance Camp will provide a powerful example of how spirit and determination can overcome physical  limitation—even as it improves participants’ skills and helps build friendships.

Over the course of the three-day camp, athletes will participate in seminars and hands-on clinics led by seasoned pros and experts including former NFL linebacker David Vebora, founder of The Adaptive Training Foundation. Service members will also have the opportunity to share their experiences facing injury or illness and discuss how sports have impacted and assisted their recovery.

“Each sport challenges the athlete’s mind, body and spirit to overcome athletic and physical challenges,” said Team Semper Fi and Team America’s Fund Senior Manager Casey Fisher. “Participating in these events is a great way to aid in the recovery process as they return home and continue their involvement in each sport.”

Team Semper Fi and Team America’s Fund are made up of service members and veterans who are overcoming significant challenges after facing injury or critical illness while in service to our country. The Semper Fi Fund provides these programs to wounded, critically ill and injured service members and their families as part of an overall support system that includes direct financial assistance, emotional support and recuperative sports programs.
