Semper Fi Fund Veterans and their Families take a Swinging Challenge at Blackwolf Run Golf Course October 16–18, 2018

Team Semper Fi Athletes and Families Challenge Themselves while bonding with Recovery Through Golf

Who: Forty service members from the Semper Fi Fund’s - Team Semper Fi Program and their families thrive with a common bond at a once in a lifetime golf clinic for all skill levels and disabilities.

“Golf is a sport that can be played by all ability levels for a lifetime. It is the ultimate challenge both mentally and physically and serves the service members well on their road to recovery by sharpening their minds and their focus, as well as tuning up their bodies. The degree of difficulty of this game requires a lot of focus, determination, and ability to adapt: all qualities of our Team Semper Fi members’” says TSF Senior Manager, Ray Watkins.

What: The second annual family golf clinic hosted at Blackwolf Run Golf Course with teaching instruction from some of the best advanced-level golf professionals in the country. Service members and their families will challenge themselves while feeling comfortable and confident with common military connections. These families will continue to grow post-trauma – learning to thrive beyond injuries and the circumstances of war. This unique event will reinforce that they are not alone and there is a community that supports them.

When: October 16–18, 2018

Where: Blackwolf Run Golf Course

1111 W Riverside Dr.

Kohler, WI 53044

Why: “Recovery Through Sport” has proven to be an ideal outlet for injured service members to hone both physical agility and mental focus, skills that are critical to navigating their recovery and reintegration. Learning and practicing alongside wounded service members, they can also trade stories, share strategies for coping with their injuries and forge lasting friendships.

ABOUT THE SEMPER FI FUND: The Semper Fi Fund provides urgently needed resources and lifetime support for post-9/11 combat wounded, critically ill and catastrophically injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Case Managers from the Fund work one-on-one with service members and veterans to understand and support their individual needs right now and throughout their lifetimes. The Fund keeps its overhead extremely low in order to have the greatest impact on the lives of service members and veterans and has been awarded the highest ratings from watchdog groups: A+ from CharityWatch (one of only two veteran nonprofits to receive this rating last year), eight consecutive 4-star ratings from Charity Navigator (an achievement attained by only 3% of rated charities) and the Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar. The teams are made up of servicemen and women who have overcome significant challenges in their service to our country and have embraced the fighting, athletic spirit on their road to recovery. They are an inspiration to us all, but more importantly, they are an inspiration to their fellow service members who are also recovering.
