SAN DIEGO (KSWB/CNN) – An endurance athlete is looking to set a world record and raise money for veterans all at the same time.

George Hood is aiming to set a Guinness World Record for the longest held abdominal plank.

He began the event Friday, in San Diego at the USS Midway Museum.

Hood is raising his abs in hopes of collecting $25,000 for a worthy cause.

Hood was happy to share his excitement for the event and the cause.

“We’re planking but there’s a greater calling here. It’s on the Midway, this has never been done before. This is probably the most historic event I’ve ever done. But we’re here raising money for the Semper Fi fund, an organization I’m passionate about and I encourage people to come up here and make the donations.”

The Semper Fi fund provides financial assistance and lifetime support to post-9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. armed forces, and their families.
