Luis Gonzales – Thank You for asking me to be a part of the Semper Fi Fund Family

Luis Gonzales says he runs with the Semper Fi Fund (SFF) because “I know every dollar goes towards our brothers and sisters in our Armed Forces who need a little love back from the pain they now face adjusting to civilian life.”

Luis served as a U.S. Marine from July 1989 to July 1993 and believes in the adage, “Once a Marine Always a Marine.”  He found out about the SFF in May 2010 when he ran in the Marine Corp Historic Half and saw a small table with a few t-shirts. To this day he still wears that shirt. Luis participated as a SFF Community Athlete in the Marine Corps Marathon in 2015 and the Semper Fi 5K in Washington, DC in 2016. This fall he plans to represent SFF at the Army Ten Miler, the Marine Corps Marathon and the New York City Marathon.  We also look forward to having Luis join us for Semper Fi Fund’s Beat the Bridge and Boston Marathon in 2018.

Luis says that the most satisfying thing about his experience as an SFF Community Athlete is that “my family, the WNY Police Department and local community members in my area believe in the same dream — crossing that finish line and bringing joy to ‘The Few, The Proud, The Marines’. I have learned in this process that every single step counts towards reaching our goals, and no one does it alone. We are all connected together—family.”

Look for Luis on race courses this fall. His advice for other runners on race day, “Make sure to get water or Gatorade at every station they provide along the route, take in the sights and shout out OOOOHHHHRRRRRAAAAA—Semper Fidelis”
