AUSTIN (KXAN) - It's not a bicycle. It's not a Segway. But it looks like a cross between both.
Rick Hermelin, 71, is the man on the ElliptiGo. He's taking it on a 100-day trek to raise money for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
He's on day 43 - almost halfway.
Hermelin started his journey on the east coast and is making his way across the lower half of the country, targeted for the finish in San Diego.
He has a $10,000 goal and thus far has raised $4,700.
Hermelin says the Marines set him on a path to fitness and much more.
"This is an opportunity to pay back from a lot of the good that I got from those four years in the Marine Corps," Hermilin said. "They set me up in a good career, and just the principles of being a Marine have always been useful to me."
Follow Hermlin's blog about the trip on his blog, called "100 Days for the Corps."
He has a donation page set up online for those interested in making donations to his cause.
