A special “Thank you!” to the Semper Fi Fund: Marine Gives Thanks and Works to Help Veterans

(This letter was received from a Semper Fi Fund case worker.)
Dear Christine,

First off let me start by saying thank you so much for what you do. I am now Director of Veterans Affairs @ ABCO Technology, with a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice and working on my Masters in Business Administration. My family is safe, warm and happy and I’m even losing a bit of weight. Christine, it really started with you and the Semper Fi Fund. When I thought things were only going to get worse, you gave me the jump start I needed to get back in the game. Now I want to help others. Let me tell you about my company.

ABCO Technology is a computer training vocational school located here in Culver City California. We are currently working with various organizations such as: PV Jobs, AADAP, US Vets, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Volunteers of America along with the many WIA and EDD offices in the Los Angeles area, to train and place Veterans in careers in the Information Technology field.

I’ve attached a brief history and outline of our company, as well as a few of the positions we have openings for. We have a 93% success rate in placing our alumni into these jobs and this is due mainly to our 3 step process of: assessment, education, and certification.

When a prospective student comes to us we assess their current skills and interests to understand where they would fit most in the IT realm. Then we place them in a training program that best fits these qualifications, with practical (hands on) training. I know “hands on training” has become somewhat of a buzz word among schools; so I refer to our training as practical training. Meaning that our students will perform the same tasks they will be required to perform on the job. With class sizes ranging from 2 – 8 students, our instructor led teaching style is designed to reflect the work environment so that when our students leave our school they will spend their probationary time at work exceeding the expectations of their employers.

The certifications we offer are the key to our students marketability, though. Computers change so often that it is hard to keep up. Old certifications are viewed by employers as outdated knowledge. Regardless of how long you have been working in the IT field, an employer will look more favorably on current certifications than old ones. Even if those old certifications come with 10+ years of experience.

So how can we help? If you come into contact with a Veteran who is looking for work, we could be the answer. Computers are not for everyone, I understand that, but we really can teach anyone from intro to PC to IT Director level. Please forward my contact info to whoever may be in need.

Best Regards

Steven Moraldo
