Nokesville, Va. – On Saturday, April 14, more than one hundred supporters came out to cheer on our wounded warrior riders participating in the Cutting Horse Classic III finale competition.
Fans watched as Marines competed for the title of “top rider” for the event. This year’s Cutting Horse Classic III winners were Sergeant Matthew Smith and Corporal Franklin Powell, both tied for first place winner in the Open Division; and Sergeant Major Joseph Van Fonda, first place winner of the Semi-Pro Division.
Following the competition the Fund hosted a BBQ and Barn Dance for the riders and guests. Special guests for the evening included Gen and Mrs. James Conway, USMC (ret), MajGen and Mrs. Carl Jensen, USMC (ret) and LtGen and Mrs. John Wissler, USMC.
The Semper Fi Fund would like to thank TenCate for sponsoring the BBQ and Barn Dance. Also, we would like thank the Marine Corps’ Wounded Warrior Regiment for organizing the event, Don York with D & M Cattle Company for hosting the event on his ranch and all the horsemen and volunteers who made the Classic a huge success.
