Team Zenoni Rides the Great Divide
Team Zenoni Rides the Great Divide
June 11, 2021 – August 11, 2021
Roosville Border Station to Antelope Wells
Join Team Zenoni, (Ret. USMC Master Sergeant Dean Zenoni and Dr. Lorri Zenoni), as we take on the biggest sporting challenge of our lives. We will ride the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR), self-supported from the Canadian Border (Roosville Border Station in Montana) to the Mexico Border (Antelope Wells, New Mexico) crossing 5 states and 2495 miles in 62 days on our touring mountain bikes. The bike-packing trek will commence at the Roosville Border Station on June 11, 2021 and finish in Antelope Wells by August 11, 2021. The GDMBR is the world’s longest, mapped, off-pavement cycling route, with 90% of the route on unpaved roads and is named as one of the top 100 best National Geographic American Adventures. You can watch a clip of the highlights of the route.
Team Zenoni are both avid outdoor adventurers. Dean was in infantry his entire career in the Marine Corps. It is in the Marine Corps that he learned his outdoor wilderness guiding skills as a Mountain Warfare Instructor at The Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Center (MWTC) in Bridgeport, California. Unfortunately, it is also during his 24 years of active service where he was combat injured and would suffer from PTSD. Dean would retire from his injuries and find Semper Fi & America’s Fund’s Team Semper Fi to help him with his recovery through sport. During his time recovering from injuries in Wounded Warrior Battalion West, Dean was introduced to cycling as a form of healing and therapy. He has since participated in many other Team Semper Fi events, including cycling, triathlon, snow skiing and swimming events. It is this support from his Team Semper Fi family that has allowed him to excel in life and his recovery, post active duty. Lorri has been active in sports her entire life, thanks to her father’s love for sports, including a brief stint as a professional boxer. She quickly realized that while the conditioning in boxing was incredible, the actual competition was not part of her healthy agenda. So, she went back to sports that improved her health instead of deteriorating it. Her specialty in lifestyle medicine has also been instrumental to the recovery of her husband. Since meeting while snow skiing on a mountain in California, this power team has tackled many challenges together and look forward to supporting each other and their fellow brothers and sisters through this epic event.
During this last year of global isolation and lockdowns, Team Zenoni found it more important than ever to connect with nature. They are riding the GDMBR to bring awareness to the importance of nature and movement for the physical and mental health of our service members and veterans. As Team Zenoni takes on this life-changing experience, they will not only improve their own well-being, but bring awareness to the importance of nature and movement and the importance of recovery through sport for all of our combat wounded, ill and injured.
You can support this worthy cause and allow our combat wounded, ill and injured to continue recovering through sport to improve their physical and mental health. Our proud American service members have given so much to protect our freedoms in our country, it is a small price to stand strong with them. Please open your hearts to pay and support them.
Ride and Conquer. Go America! Go Team Zenoni!
