As part of the season long “Going to Bat for San Diego” community giving campaign, the August 18 San Diego Padres game included a text to donate program to support the Semper Fi Fund, a local non-profit community organization focused on health and human services for veterans. San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) will match the amount donated by fans up to $10,000.

To contribute to the Semper Fi Fund, fans at home or at the game could either text SFFPadre to 20222 ChecktoSFFTall_8-18-16_0
with a $10 donation, or make a $5 text donation on-site to get a picture with Padres center fielder, Travis Jankowski, and the Padres Friar and Pad Squad before the first pitch. Fans not attending the game were able to do their part by texting to donate throughout the week.

Funds raised during the event will go to support The Switch initiative, an education and career transition assistance program for veterans. The program assists with additional costs of books, fees, training, interview attire, computers and other equipment needed to pursue education opportunities.

Semper Fi Fund focuses on providing financial assistance and lifetime support to post-9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families, ensuring they have the resources they need during their recovery and transition back into their communities.
