Basketball Great Lisa Leslie to compete for Semper Fi Fund on Celebrity Apprentice 2017

A three-time WNBA MVP and four-time Olympic gold medalist (1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008), Lisa Leslie is a legend in the basketball world. Her off-the-court accomplishments are equally impressive. Leslie enjoyed a modeling career for years, she’s an author, former co-owner of the Los Angeles Sparks, and she works as a sports commentator, analyst and talk show co-host for several networks.

Her next adventure includes competing on the upcoming season of Celebrity Apprentice 2017, which will make its debut on January 2. Leslie, who could have chosen to support any charity with her potential winnings selected the Semper Fi Fund.

“I knew immediately that I wanted to do something for the military,” said Leslie. “After doing some research on charities that support our service members and veterans, I felt the Semper Fi Fund was the best choice. Semper Fi Fund has the highest charity ratings and its overhead is really low, which means more money goes directly to our service members and veterans. They also support all members of the Armed Forces—across all service branches—and that was really important to me.”

While Leslie fondly recalls representing the red, white and blue at four Olympic Games and having had the opportunity to rub elbows with a lot of other athletes and celebrities, she says our service members and veterans are her true heroes.

“I wanted to bring awareness to something bigger and greater than myself, it’s important to me to use my voice to help others,” said Leslie.

Leslie is no stranger to military life. In fact, it has some deep roots within her own family tree. Her husband, Captain Michael Lockwood, an ex-Air Force pilot, flew in Desert Storm and Desert Shield. And her grandfather served in the Army. Her father-in-law and brother-in-law both served in the Marine Corps. Her Aunt was in the Air Force and her stepdaughter Mikaela Lockwood, is the latest to join the Armed Forces; she recently graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy earlier this year and is on her first assignment.

“Basketball took me everywhere, I have traveled the world over, and I know firsthand how great the USA is and how much we have to be thankful for—that’s because of our service members and veterans.”

Please join us in cheering on Lisa Leslie as the season begins, as 100% of any of her winnings on the show will go to support the Semper Fi Fund. To learn more about the Fund’s mission or to make a donation, visit
