Princeton, MA – Local Princeton hero, Marine Lance Corporal Evan Reichenthal will be returning home on Memorial Day weekend to a hero’s welcome. This will be the first time Evan has been able to return home since he was injured in January while on foot patrol in Marjah, Afghanistan.
Evan will be arriving home in time for the Memorial Day parade in Princeton and has been asked to be the guest of honor for the parade. Local Girl Scout Troops from the Princeton area have raised $650 that they originally wanted to give to Evan. Evan, however, asked the Troops to give the money to the Semper Fi Fund in support of Evan, and they will present him with the donation during the parade. Evan’s little sister, a local Girl Scout will be presenting the donation with her leader.
Evan sustained injuries while his unit was conducting a mine sweep in Afghanistan. An IED (Improvised Explosive Device) exploded, blowing Evan twenty feet into the air. His injuries include the loss of his right leg below the knee, ligament and burn damage to his left leg and severe nerve damage to his left elbow and right hand. Evan is currently going through recovery and rehabilitation at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC.
