Christmas Lights in Delaware

Townsend, Delaware – Each year, Bob Hairgrove organizes a display of 150,000 Christmas lights at his home, synchronized to music and complete with an operational Christmas train in his yard. Approximately 25,000 people attend this each year. This year, as he prepares for his son to join the US Marine Corps, he has decided for the first time to accept donations. While the event is held nightly November 30th through December 31st from 5:00PM – 9:00PM, he will have two weekends dedicated to fundraising for the Semper Fi Fund: December 7th, 8th, 21st, and 22nd.

Sharing our stories in honor of Veterans Day: Chief Warrant Officer TaMarsh Thompson

Chief Warrant Officer (CWO3) TaMarsh Thompson is an Apache helicopter pilot in the United States Army and has been serving his country for eighteen years. TaMarsh was on his fourth deployment to Afghanistan serving in the line of duty when he was involved in a helicopter crash on March 22, 2012 and sustained a severe traumatic brain injury.

TaMarsh was surrounded by his loving family from the time he arrived at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Read the rest of this entry »

Sharing our stories in honor of Veterans Day: Staff Sergeant Courtney Petersen

Staff Sergeant Courtney "Corey" Petersen (Ret.) was injured in 2007, leaving her paralyzed from the chest down. During her month-long stay in intensive care, The Semper Fi Fund assisted Corey's husband to ensure that he had the resources needed to care for his wife.

In March 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Brian Meyer was deployed as a Staff Sergeant when he was injured by an IED blast that resulted in the complete amputation of his right hand and leg, and amputation of the thumb and index finger on his left hand. HTS is a new company, only 18 months old, and is headed up by a Navy spouse. Our roots are in the military community and we are fashion on a mission! Veterans Day Luminary Celebration

Dumfries, Virginia – Organized by Ron and Betty Jane Chidlow, this event will be held in their neighborhood, Four Seasons, at Historic Virginia, off of 234 in Dumfries, Virginia.

The Chidlows are collecting $10 donations for luminary kits, which include ten small white bags and ten votive candles. Luminaries will be lit at dusk on November 11th in honor of our men and women in all the Armed Services. 100% of the profits will go directly to the Semper Fi Fund. This is the seventh year their community has participated in this event. Four Seasons is a gated community and those wishing to see the luminaries should plan to do so before 8:00PM.

GATHERING over a kitchen table and glasses of wine in early 2003, a group of officers' wives at Camp Pendleton, Calif., cobbled together a plan for helping Marines injured during the invasion of Iraq.

First they distributed snacks and toiletries at hospitals, then they bought plane tickets and special equipment for wounded Marines and their families. Volunteers all, the wives assumed that the war would end in 2004, allowing them to go happily out of business.

"The Cigar Marine" Cigar Line Launch

El Dorado Hills, CA – Author and speaker Nick "Gunny Pop" Popaditch–the "Cigar Marine"–is launching a line of cigars with a portion of the proceeds going to support the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund to honor his fellow military men and women. In recognition of the Marine Corps' Birthday, Nick will unveil his new cigar line at a special event held Nov. 10, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at Art of Cigars in El Dorado Hills, Calif. The first two premium hand-rolled cigars to be released under the "Cigar Marine" line are "The Gunny" (a double-wrapped Torpedo) and "The Tanker" (a mild spiced Rum).
