A Marine spouse believes she has found a remedy for deployment separation anxiety, post-traumatic stress and even battlefield wounds — and it’s all in a cup of hot tea.
For Rachel Crawford, wife of a Marine major stationed aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., her discovery of the healing powers of tea began after the loss of her prematurely born twin girls. Finding that a mug of tea was the only thing that brought her any comfort in her grief, she was inspired, as time passed, to learn more about the potency of tea and its uses. Her digging led her to adaptogens, compounds within medicinal herbs that some believe enhance performance and promote wellness, stability and healing. Read the rest of this entry »

The Marines fought off a near upset from the Army this week in the 2013 Warrior Games, claiming a fourth Chairman’s Cup and another year of bragging rights as undefeated champion of the athletic competition for troops injured by combat, illness or accidents.
At closing ceremonies Thursday night in Colorado Springs, Colo., the 50-member team of active duty and veteran Marines belted their hymn for the crowd, singing “From the Halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli…” Some of the athletes sat in wheelchairs or stood on prosthetic legs. Some couldn’t see the cup they passed around, but they kissed and hugged it and each other. Read the rest of this entry »

Boston, MA – The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans first hosted an educational program in Boston in 1976. Through the years we have returned to the city again and again, each time impressed by the historic beauty and the proud citizens who call Boston home.
Now we are honored to be able to give something back to a city that has graciously hosted so many of our members.
The Foundation, together with ISCEBS, will donate $15 for every registration to our upcoming Boston conferences to the America's Fund Boston Marathon Relief Fund. The Semper Fi Fund, inspired to help the victims of the Boston bombing, and in addition, created the America's Fund Mentors Program through which veterans will mentor the newly injured, providing hope and encouragement throughout their rehabilitation and recovery.
Donations will be made for each registration to the following four programs, all hosted in September and expected to bring nearly 800 conference attendees to Boston:
The Foundation is proud to support Boston. We look forward to returning to the city this September and in 2014 for the 60th U.S. Annual Employee Benefits Conference.

Bio: I enlisted into the Air Force in 2001 shortly after 9/11, I was in college and felt like I needed to do more with my life as well as prepare a future foundation for my wife and kids. I've served 8 years Active Duty as a Comm Technician, and now finishing up my time in the Air Forces Reserves with the 610th Security Forces Squadron here at NAS JRB, Ft Worth, Tx. I deployed to Afghanistan Jan 2007- Mar 2008 and during my time there I worked side by side with other branches to fulfill the mission. I realized how important it was to work together as well as support each other during difficult times, even after coming back home and dealing with wounded vets, PTSD and different type of depression. Regardless what branch, we are all in this together. I lost 2 good friends to these conflicts, so I believe I owe them everything for their sacrifices. The least I can do to honor them is raise awareness so that's what I'm going to do.

San Marcos, TX – Chris Sukow is participating in the Texas Water Safari, which is a 260-mile paddle race from the Texas Hill Country to the Gulf Coast.
Run continuously since 1963, the course follows the San Marcos and Guadalupe Rivers from the city of San Marcos to the coastal fishing town of Seadrift. Paddlers must complete the race in 100 hours. While the required exhausting pace and blistering heat are reason enough to bow out, it is the ancillary hurdles that often eliminate racers long before the finish line: dam portages, water moccasins, logjams, mosquitoes, dysentery, alligators, sleep deprivation, and equipment failures.
I will be paddling in the Standard Division of the race with longtime friend, Brandon Heutmaker, who is from just outside Denver, Colorado. I am supporting the Semper Fi fund as I had the privilege and fortune of being raised in a military family. Dad was a career Marine helicopter pilot and mom was a "Bad Ass" Marine wife!!
With this family background, Chris has decided to fundraise for his event. To donate to his event, please visit his campaign page!
