In Memory of Matt McCulley
Matt McCulley was a 35 year old husband and father of three beautiful girls. He was a special and unique son, brother, and friend to many.
As an avid triathlete, runner and coach, Matt had a vision to develop a triathlon in his favorite vacation town, which would benefit two very special organizations: The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and Sea Isle City's VFW Post 1963.
When asked why he wanted to donate his time, energy and support, he simply responded, "I have only one goal: to give something back to the veterans who have fought in our previous battles and those who fight in today's wars."
Matt created TRI for Our Veterans to show his appreciation for all of those who have, and continue, to serve our country each day.
On January 12, 2010, Matt suddenly passed away. He touched so many lives, in such a short time, and it is his family's wish to keep his legacy alive. Matt will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on.
"Semper Fi" is a moving patriotic song written by songwriter, Marty Lehr from Daytona Beach FL. It captures the essence of how we feel about the "always faithful" and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Please visit the website to download "Semper Fi" from iTunes. On May 7, 2007, longtime friend of the Semper Fi Fund, Lance Corporal Tony "Ronny" Porta, sustained severe injuries as a result of an IED blast while conducting operations in Al Anbar Province, to include the amputation of his right arm and 65% body burns to his upper body. Ronny was in very critical condition when he first arrived at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in Texas, and the Semper Fi Fund immediately stepped in to assist Ronny's family. We provided family support grants to fill the gap caused by lost wages so that Ronny's family could focus entirely on the recovery process.
The Semper Fi Fund is devoted to providing a lifetime of assistance for the life-long needs of our nation's heroes, like Ronny. Over the past five years, Ronny has undergone over 120 surgeries, and the Semper Fi Fund has been there every step of the way. Read the rest of this entry »

This is our small way of giving back, saying thank you and "we will always remember". This small thank you will be fundraising during her participation the Boston Marathon and Tahoe Ironman.

Boston, MA – My brother and I chose SFF because they helped my family so much when my brother came back from Afghanistan injured. He was in Bethesda for awhile and my family never had to worry about a thing. Everyone we met from the SFF was wonderful. We decided to fundraise with SFF as a way to give back. When our heroes come home injured, they should not have to worry about anything but getting better. That was luxury that we saw first hand, and one that we didn't expect. Now Emily is running the Boston Marathon on April 15th, please help her fundraise by donating to her fundraising page!
