New Smyrna Beach, FL - "A Desert Storm veteran, Bill Rotella ran his first Marine Corps Marathon just prior to deploying to Desert Storm with the 2nd Advanced Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) in 1990. He was a young, accomplished Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps and he held an 8:30 minute pace for 26.2 miles during that marathon."

5th Annual PFC Ryan Jerabek USMC Memorial Challenge Raises Funds for Injured Servicemembers and Their Families

Hobart, WI – Ryan Jerabek, an 18-year old Hobart native, served our nation in the United States Marine Corps with honor, courage and commitment. He gave his life for the cause of freedom on April 6th, 2004, in Ramadi, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ryan was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat V for extraordinary heroism. He also received the Purple Heart.

4th Annual Major McClung Memorial Run Raises Funds for Injured Servicemembers and Their Families

NAS Whidbey Island, WA – The Major McClung Memorial Run is a race dedicated to Major Megan Malia Leilani McClung (April 14, 1972–December 6, 2006). She was the first female United States Marine Corps officer killed in combat during the Iraq War, while serving as a public affairs officer in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Major McClung's parents, Mike and Re McClung, began this event in order to have a race to remember their fallen daughter and to raise money to donate to the Semper Fi Fund.

Recipient of Semper Fi Fund Assistance to Throw Out First Pitch at Red Sox Game

Boston, MA – Sgt. Aaron Silton of Westford, MA was injured in Afghanistan when he was shot in the face while patrolling with the 1st Marine Division on September 28, 2009. His injuries were severe, causing him to suffer a stroke and several other complications. Sgt. Silton has required many surgeries and therapies that will continue for years to come.

Four Swimmers to Swim “12 Miles for Marines” in Gull Lake to Benefit Semper Fi Fund

Brainerd, MN – Three Marines and the mother of a Marine from 1st Battalion, 5th Marines (1/5 Marines) complete a 12 mile relay swim of Gull Lake on Thursday July 1, 2010. Entitled “12 Miles for Marines,” this event is an official event of the Brainerd/Baxter 4th of July Celebration. The relay swim will honor the fallen and wounded Marines of the 1/5 Marines who served in Afghanistan in 2009 and strive to raise $10,000.00 for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.

Semper Fi Fund Pledges $25K Grant to Homes for Our Troops During 3- Day “Build Brigade”

Fredericksburg, VA – In the spirit of their long-term relationship with Homes for Our Troops, the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund will be contributing $25K towards the cost of building a specially adapted home for Sgt. Steven Kiernan, USMC. Sgt Kiernan was severely injured May 2008, in Fallujah, Iraq. While on foot patrol, Sgt Kiernan lost both of his legs in an IED attack.

US Paralympics Amazing Salute Award

The US Paralympics has awarded the 2010 Amazing Salute Award to the Semper Fi Fund for their work with US Paralympics and Team Semper Fi.

The award was presented to Semper Fi Fund's president and founder, Karen Guenther, during the 2010 Developing Amazing Leaders Paralympic Conference, in Colorado Spring, CO.

The Amazing Salute Award is for an individual or organization that has made amazing contributions to injured military personnel. The Paralympic movement returns to its roots by recognizing those who are providing amazing services to injured members of our Armed Forces through the promotion of physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
