International Falls, MN – Tom Knoll, original Ironman and 79-year-old retired Marine, has started his 3rd and final cross-country charity run, which is set to be completed Thursday, July 12, 2012. In June, Tom began his run in New Orleans, Louisiana and followed the Mississippi river through Memphis, St. Louis, and Minneapolis. His final destination is International Falls, Minnesota, which lies along the U.S./Canada border. His total running mileage will be over 1,575 miles.
Tom has expressed that his adventure is not a race, as he will be talking to communities along his route about the Semper Fi Fund: a nonprofit whose mission is to raise funds and awareness for critically ill and injured service members of the U.S. Armed Forces. As part of the Semper Fi Fund's Jinx McCain Horsemanship Program, ten select wounded, ill or injured Marines from the Marine Corps' Wounded Warrior Regiment will participate in the event at the D & M Cattle Company in Nokesville, Virginia. The Jinx McCain Horsemanship Program is a facet of the Semper Fi Fund's Team Semper Fi, which is a rehabilitative sports program made up of more than 300 injured service members who compete in athletic events across the country.
