Just in time for Memorial Day, Homestead Gardens completed its sixth year in support of the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. The fund provides financial relief to post 9-11 Marines and Sailors, as well as other members of the Armed Forces if they are injured while attached to a Marine unit.

"Homestead Gardens is extremely privileged to be part of supporting the Semper Fi Fund. This organization does amazing work in helping to ease some of the financial burden on our injured heroes and their families. This is such a great cause that we jumped at the opportunity to participate and plan on doing so for a long time," said Don Riddle Jr., president and CEO of Homestead Gardens. Oceanside Marine Celebrates Cross-Country Bicycle Ride

Maj. Bill Conner left Oceanside on his bicycle, geared up for a cross-country ride, on Easter Sunday. His goal was to raise money for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, and that's exactly what he did - to the tune of $35,500. BETHANY BEACH — On his bicycle journey across the country, Marine Maj. Bill Conner’s friends were never far from his thoughts.

“A lot of times when you have a tail wind, the (American) flag will be tapping you on the shoulder,” he said about the flag that was flown in Iraq by Maj. Doug Zembiec, who was killed in 2007 during combat. “Anytime I felt the flag tapping me on the back, I always thought of Doug just tapping me on the shoulder and saying, ‘Hey, keep on going.’ ”

Conner cycled 3,113 miles from San Diego to Bethany Beach to raise money for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, set up to provide immediate financial support for injured and critically ill members of the military and their families. He ended his trek on May 27 by dipping the front tire of his bike into the Atlantic Ocean. Read the rest of this entry »

EASTON - The third annual Helping Heroes Golf Tournament and Dinner to benefit the Semper Fi Fund, an organization created to assist injured and ailing Marines and their families, will be held on June 6 at the Easton Country Club.

A Princeton Marine seriously injured in Afghanistan made his first trip home in nearly six months just in time to be honored in his hometown’s Memorial Day parade.

“It’s been long awaited. Being home is a very far-fetched idea when you’re in the hospital going through surgery almost every day,” said Evan Reichenthal, 20. The Marine lance corporal had been in Marjah, Afghanistan, for only six weeks when he was injured by an improvised explosive device while on a foot patrol. He remained conscious as he was thrown 20 feet, suffering injuries that cost him his right leg as well as causing burns, ligament damage and severe nerve damage. Read the rest of this entry »
